The law firm of Rucker, Rucker & Aymett traces its beginnings to William S. McLemore. McLemore is the great-great-grandfather of now retired attorney John R. Rucker Jr.. Judge McLemore began his law practice in Williamson County, Tennessee in 1860 and later moved to Murfreesboro to practice law with his son-in-law, John E. Richardson.

Our History
McLemore is the great-great-grandfather of John R. Rucker Jr. Judge McLemore began his law practice in Williamson County, Tennessee in 1860 and later moved to Murfreesboro to practice law with his son-in-law, John E. Richardson. After practicing law for several years, John E. Richardson was elected Circuit Judge and served from 1904-1934. Judge Richardson associated his grandson John R. Rucker Sr. into the firm in 1934. John Rucker Sr. continued to practice law and brought both of his sons into the firm during the 1970s. At this time, John Rucker Sr. served as General Sessions Court Judge and Rutherford County State Senator from 1977-1988. The Honorable Toby Gilley joined the practice in the mid 1990s as an intern and later as a partner of the firm and currently serves as a General Sessions Court judge.
Rucker, Rucker and Aymett PC presently consists of attorneys John R. Rucker III, and J. Stephen Aymett. Client-focused values and service has kept the firm in business for more than 160 years and are the same principles Rucker, Rucker and Aymett hold dear today. The legacy and tradition of Rucker, Rucker and Aymett continues as one of Murfreesboro’s finest and most respected law firms.

John Richardson ‘Rich’ Rucker III

Rich attended Oakland High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee before obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil Humphrey School of Law. Following in the footsteps of his father Jock, and his grandfather John R. Rucker Sr. , after obtaining his law degree in 2007 he began practicing at the family firm.
Rich is highly respected as an attorney in Middle Tennessee and has received recognition for his practice. Rich is a member of the Rutherford/Cannon County Bar Association, as well as the Tennessee Bar Association. In 2018, Rich was recognized in VIP Murfreesboro Magazine’s Legal Leaders for his commitment and leadership in the field of law.
Like his father, Rich has been involved in the betterment of the Rutherford County community. Rich is a graduate of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Rutherford class of 2017 and served as the chair of Industry Day for the Chamber in 2018. Rich has also served on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association for Rutherford County, the Rutherford County University of Tennessee Alumni Chapter, and the Murfreesboro Soccer Club. Rich has served as a member on the Heart Ball Executive Committee, Attorneys with Heart, the Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation, the Commonwealth Society, and the Rutherford Society. Rich has also served as co-chair for the 2020-2021 Rutherford Society Gala and the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs annual fundraiser in 2017.
Rich Rucker is married to Ann Elizabeth and they have two children, Will and Frannie. Rich enjoys being involved in youth sports and activities with his kids, working on projects in his garage, traveling, and is a member of First United Methodist Church.

J. Stephen Aymett Jr.
Partner
Stephen joined the law firm in 2016 and became a partner in 2019. Originally from Lewisburg, TN, Stephen is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and The Nashville School of Law. Prior to moving into private practice, he was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Judge David Loughry and the Honorable Judge Barry Tidwell.
Mr. Aymett is a member of the Rutherford/Cannon County Bar Association, as well as the Tennessee Bar Association. Stephen has also been a part of the Pro Bono Great Stride Therapeutic Riding Program since 2003. Stephen is proud to be a devoted member of Fair Haven Baptist Church.
Outside of the law office, Stephen is happily married to his wife, Regan. The two enjoy spending time with their son, Owen, outdoors at sporting or horse-related events.
